Inner Westside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu engaged CCC Engineering to deliver mechanical and electrical engineering design for the conversion of an existing low-rise building at 63-65 Norton Street, Leichhardt into a dedicated Class 9b jiu-jitsu gym. The works are internal alterations only, non-structural, and were progressed via a Complying Development Certificate (CDC).
The brief required services design suitable to engage trades through competitive tender and to issue CDC documentation in coordination with architect David Haertsch and the certifier.
Our Role
- Outside air ventilation, natural ventilation and comfort air conditioning design
- Heat load calculations for an active training environment
- Site main switchboard modification design
- General lighting and exit/emergency lighting design
- Maximum demand calculations and Section J lighting calculation
- Equipment schedules, scope of work and tender forms (mechanical and electrical)
- Liaison with Level 3 ASP, fire engineer and BCA consultant
- Design Certificates to NCC 2022, AS 1668.1/2, AS 3000-2018 and AS 1680.0-2009

Achieving comfort cooling and ventilation across an open mat training area with high occupant heat loads

Sized comfort air conditioning and outside air rates to suit Class 9b occupant density with NCC 2022 and AS 1668.2 compliance

Change of use to Class 9b within an existing electrical installation requiring Site Main Switchboard modification

Designed Site Main Switchboard modification with maximum demand calculation and coordination with Level 3 ASP
Challenge
Two-stage CDC approval requiring tender-ready documentation aligned with the certifier and BCA consultant
Solution
Issued full mechanical and electrical CDC documentation including drawings, specifications, schedules and tender forms in DWG and PDF
Results
- Mechanical and electrical CDC documentation issued for construction
