Project Snapshot

Scope Air engaged CCC Engineering to provide specialist mechanical commissioning assistance and compliance verification for the Roslyn Packer Theatre, one of Sydney’s premier performing-arts venues. The project involved assessing and re-testing the theatre’s smoke-management system under the original ARUP Fire Engineering Report (FER) to confirm compliance with AS 1668.1. CCC Engineering’s role was to identify control logic and airflow sequencing issues that had prevented the theatre from achieving its annual fire-safety certification and to recommend corrective measures that ensured safe, reliable performance aligned with the building’s performance-based design intent.

Our Role

  • Review of existing smoke-control strategy and documentation
  • Site testing of smoke-exhaust and make-up-air systems
  • AS 1668.1 verification testing and pressure differential measurement
  • Review of door-force compliance and make-up-air configuration
  • Development of fire-matrix logic and commissioning recommendations
  • Liaison with Scope Air and fire engineers for certification

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge

Non-representative closed-door testing produced excessive pressure and door forces

Solution

Verified testing with doors open, consistent with the ARUP FER’s make-up-air assumptions

Challenge

Incomplete high-level make-up- air openings limited airflow and balance

Solution

Recommended reinstatement of design openings per Drawings M101 & M102

Challenge

Missing control documentation for fire-mode sequencing

Solution

Drafted fire-matrix and activation logic to align with AS 1668.1 requirements

Results

  • Confirmed compliance pathway consistent with the original Fire Engineering Report
  • Successful on-site verification demonstrating balanced pressure and exhaust flow
  • Clear rectification plan for electrical submains and fan-control sequencing
  • Improved documentation supporting ongoing certification and operator training
  • Reinforced confidence in the theatre’s life-safety systems and performance intent
